Project Description
This stunning live-edge Bastogne Walnut tabletop measures between 16-48" wide, approximately 84" long, with the top 2-1/2" thick. This size allows for comfortable seating for 8 guests. A hybrid walnut species sourced from Northern California, the Bastogne Walnut or "Paradox" derives its original name from cross-pollinating Claro Walnut and English Walnut. Compared to either parent species, the result was a faster-growing species with harder and stronger lumber but one that did not produce very many walnuts as intended, hence the name "Paradox".
The heartwood color and grain appearance are wide-ranging in this species of Walnut. The colors range from mild yellows, almost golden, to dark chocolate browns. The grains are irregular patterns, almost rippled in some areas. The reddish browns around the growth rings accented with black streaks make for an astonishing effect. The top is finished with clear Rubio-monocoat for years of durability. Water-resistant, and food-safe.
