Project Description

This round Shou Sugi Ban or "fire" table began as a locally sourced pine with countless scars from woodworms. The techniques used to create this "fire" look offered a unique pattern of epoxy rivers. The base was created and carved from the same pine, allowing for the natural colors to give a stark contrast to the layers of black, white, and silver tones of the char.

Superclear 2.0 Liquid Glass epoxy was used for the rivers, while the entire top was polished smooth using Superclear Table Top epoxy. Colored pigment by Black Diamond was used with the deep pour epoxy, giving this Phoenix its fire effect.

The base was carved and filled with the same epoxy combinations to match the top. It was then finished with clear Rubio-monocoat for years of durability. The final size of this round end table was 22" in diameter and stands 20" tall.
